.108 Jorge Delgado
During the summer before my sophomore year of college I worked in the Admissions Office, which introduced me to the cast of characters that was the full time staff. I remember noticing Jorge first (I mean, he is handsome), because of his incredibly outgoing personality and honest approach with myself and the other students working that summer. A genuinely joyful presence, every day in the office was made better when Jorge was there. He knew how to let his vibrant self radiate outward and in turn pick everyone else up in the process.
Jorge also struck me because of how incredible he is at his job. He’s extremely personable and wildly smart, making him a joy to speak with about any topic at all. With prospective or incoming students or parents, he would always take the time to be sincere, thorough, and perhaps most importantly, honest. He always painted a clear picture that assured folks of their worries but outlined potential obstacles as well. His innate charm was (and still is) matched by his impressive diligence and efficiency, and it was inspiring to work with him that summer. On that note, it’s important for me to note the specific inspiration he gave me (and I know others, too) by being an openly gay (and successful!) man in an office environment, potentially being the first example of that I had ever seen first-hand. He was so healthily confident and secure in himself, making him all the more compassionate, empathetic and approachable.
Jorge, thank you so very much for being such a hoot to work with that summer, and for always looking out for us. Thank you for your guidance then, and for your friendship now! Thank you for your extremely infectious energy and positivity, and thank you for always making me laugh. Thank you for our truly fabulous time in Miami last year and for just generally being such a joy to spend time with. I’m so grateful to call you a friend and can’t wait for the next Miami adventure! Thank you, Jorge, for being you.
