If you’re looking for something to make you feel good in today’s world, I recommend talking with Basia, even just for a few minutes. Her laughter alone will cause your smile to start and the rest of the conversation will have your spirits completely lifted. Basia and I worked together at The Met for a couple of years and I know for a fact that I am a better person because of it. Basia exudes a confidence that invites others to be the same, and she leads her life with incredible grace and patience. If Basia was in the office that day, things were going to be okay.
I learned pretty quickly that Basia’s innate intelligence is matched by her compassion and empathy, both of which she brings to every task and conversation at work. She’s a delight to speak with and be around because she has such a unique calming energy to her that I appreciate, and often needed! Basia is so wonderfully talented and her bright and fun personality only make her as a human being even better. What’s more, she has a true love (obsession?) for dogs. As a dog lover myself, it was always remarkable to watch another human crumble at the sight of a furry creature, especially Mr. Bubz. Basia was generally (and still is) a role model to so many, always setting the example with kindness and pushing herself to the next challenge.
Basia, thank you for making my time at the museum better because of your presence. Thank you for always making me laugh and for your wonderful facial expressions, sometimes given without ever stopping your typing. Thank you for being such a smart and important voice in the room and in the building as a whole, and thank you for always standing up for what you think is right. I’m so grateful to have worked with you and to call you a friend. Thank you, Basia, for being you.
