.118 Chrissy Batterson James

It’s been over 5 years since I last spoke with Chrissy, but just upon hearing her voice over the phone this week I was reminded of how sweet and comforting she is. When I was in college, Chrissy worked in the Career Center, spending every day helping students in any way that she could. I remember when we met thinking that her energy was unmatched by anyone I had encountered there and I was so happy anytime we spoke or even when I just saw her around campus. She exudes such a welcoming vibe and is so beautifully approachable and kind.

What stood out most to me, however, was how Chrissy did not ever seem to treat her job as just a job. She was so dedicated to helping students on campus and it was so obvious to see that care and diligence. She led every conversation with compassion and empathy and I genuinely could see how much she cared. Chrissy was also incredibly supportive of me and my projects, many of which started with a massive lack of support and huge amount of doubt from the university as a whole. I will always be grateful for that unconditional confidence she instilled in me.

Chrissy, thank you so much for being such a vibrant star and for always being so positive. You could (and still can!) always put a smile on my face. Thank you for being so invested in your crucial role of helping students get to where they wanted and needed to be. Thank you for being so nurturing and helpful — I am certain that you bring that same dedication to your role as a mother, and your kids must truly be lucky to have you as their mother. Thank you for just being such a good human being. I’m so grateful we crossed paths and for the ability to pick up the phone with you years later and just chat. Thank you, Chrissy, for being you.
