.042 Debbie Serban
The first word that comes to mind when I think of Debbie is family, and not only because she married my aunt last October (can’t believe it’s almost been a year!). Debbie has been family since the moment I met her when I instantly saw the unbridled joy and love she brought and gave to my aunt. She is incredibly smart, an outstanding parent to two wonderful kids, so grounded and centered in her herself, and such a role model to me when it comes to her courage, her calmness, and her kindness toward all those in her life.
Over the past few years, I’m so happy that I’ve been able to spend more time with Debbie and just to have her in my life. She always makes us laugh (and has a very contagious laugh of her own), she always has something intelligent and additive to say, and she listens with such intent and compassion. I really enjoy being around her because I feel like I always learn something, am completely comfortable, and have a loyal and trustworthy person to engage with. I also want to say that Debbie’s addition to our family has made me feel more understood and seen, being that we both are part of the LGBTQ family and share that unique bond, that comes with its own scars and sacrifices, but also special joys.
Debbie, thank you so much for being so fun and lovely to be around. Thank you for giving my aunt so much joy and happiness, and for being there for her unconditionally. Thank you for your absolutely beautiful and heartwarming wedding last year, especially for when you woke up at 5am to say goodbye to us. Thank you so much for being so kind and supportive, and for your honesty and advice. I’m so glad and grateful to call you family and I appreciate every time that we get to see each other! Thank you for our wonderful drinks in NYC just the four of us, and thank you for being such a positive light in the world. I love you dearly and thank you for just being you.
