.228 Miguel Rayos-Velázquez
There’s really no one quite like Miguel. As he’s one of the best friends of my boyfriend, I felt a lot of pressure to impress when we first met. When the moment finally came, and we both were wearing wigs, I felt an immediate release of that nervousness. Yes, I was still anxious to be my best, but I could tell Miguel was listening and taking me in for all that I am.
Miguel is always listening and always a few steps ahead. He’s wildly intelligent and is one of the most intriguing people to have a conversation with — it’s always substantive, bound to make you laugh, and will always leave you having learned something new. He’s one of the funniest people I know and we have a deep bond over some fairly dark humor and perspectives. Miguel is not afraid to be his whole self. One of my favorite things about him is his willingness to have in-depth dialogue, even if that means strong discussion and disagreements. He doesn’t shy away from a challenge and he’s honest with himself and those around him. I have a sincere admiration for his tenacity and diligence, and I’m always going to be in awe of his rapid mind and wit.
Miguel, thank you for always knowing how to make me laugh and truly feel joy. Thank you for being so welcoming to me and my full self, even if that meant me crying on your shoulder within about 2 weeks of knowing you. Thank you for the incredible friendship that we have been able to develop independently, and thank you for the unconditional love and friendship you give to Ale, now and always. Thank you giving me some of the most ridiculous and fun memories of my adult life. Thank you for being such a treat to be around and for being honest with me all of the time.
Thank you for your kindness and support of me and my projects. A huge thank you for your unwavering support while I was furloughed, especially for the generous donation from the “fund.” I genuinely can’t believe that I didn’t know you existed just 4 years ago, and I’m so grateful you’re in my life now and always will be. Thank you, Miguel, for all that you are.
