Evans was recently an Uber driver that I had for a quick trip here in San Diego. It really didn’t take long for him to spark up a conversation, and I’m so glad he did so. We had a remarkable discussion about our different backgrounds and passions and what it means to be an American, especially in today’s world. It was a reminder that beautiful people and stories are sometimes right in front of you if you just look up.

Evans, thank you so much for making my day and for sharing details about your life with me. Thank you for being so open and kind and for your spectacular questions and insights. Thank you for giving me a reminder of the joy of human interaction; something that I haven’t felt with a stranger in quite a long time due to the pandemic. Thank you for giving me so many helpful things to think about and for your own vulnerability. If you ever see this, please know I had a wonderful time chatting with you and that you are an example of bravery, true diligence, and compassion. Thanks, Evans, for being you!
