.055 Nat Williams

Nat and I met a few years ago now through our soccer league here in NYC. One of the first things I noticed was how so many people are drawn to him; to his wonderful and kind energy, his hilarious quips, and his innate ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whenever we have spent time together, he genuinely listens and cares about what you have to say. There have been multiple times when I have watched him suggest and/or move a group to a new table or position so as to open the “circle” or angles up so that another person may join or be heard. A small, but extremely powerful gesture, and one that he seemingly does effortlessly.

Nat is super smart, always equipped with a deep knowledge bank allowing us to talk about literally anything. He’s an expert at discussing important issues while hearing all sides and standing up fiercely for what he believes in. Nat’s also incredibly funny to the point where I almost always look to him in any group setting so that I don’t miss a joke or facial expression that in turn puts me close to tears of laughter. His storytelling abilities (see: typical house parties and why they’re the worst) are off the charts, but they’re topped by his compassion and empathy for everyone around him. He’s an incredible connector, always looking outward and making sure folks are included and having a good time. In addition to all of this and in reference to how he came into my life, Nat is a phenomenal soccer player. Quick and strategic, he’s a wonderful teammate and I always feel a sense of relief when we’re on the same team.

Nat, thank you for being a friend in this chaotic city and for being so vibrant and full of life. Thank you for your stories, your jokes, you intellect, and your drive. Thank you for always making me laugh and for always being such a fun person to be around. Thank you for the Chicago memories and for being a part of some of my favorite moments here in NYC. You are a true gem, someone so many look up to and respect deeply. I’m so very grateful that we met, that we both know Alex, that we both appreciate the state of CA, and that we have a true passion for soccer. I’m grateful for our friendship and of course, for the next time when I can see you, hug you, and laugh together again. Thank you for being you.
