.090 Brittany Norfleet
My friendship with Brittany began with a running start - literally. She used to chase me around the playground (over 20 years ago!) during recess and lunch, laughing when she would catch me and playfully kick my legs. I’m fairly certain that a bruise I had until middle school was because of her. Anyways, I’m pretty grateful for those days because aside from the scrapes and scratches, Brittany has been one of a few childhood friends, someone who embodies resilience and kindness through struggle and success, and someone who is a dear part of my life, my sister’s, and that of my family.
When you meet Brittany, it’s hard not to notice her beautiful smile and absolutely wonderful personality. She’s so unassumingly joyful and fun to be around, complete with a contagious laugh and willingness to listen. She’s incredibly loyal and trustworthy, always caring deeply for her friends and their well-being. On top of her being so fun and exuberant, she’s smart and quick, evidenced through her career of course but also through her ability to have a conversation about anything. Seeing her always gives me a warm feeling of comfort and family, especially now that we both live in NYC. She’s a reminder of home and I credit that to her unconditional compassion, sweet attitude and respect that she gives toward everyone she encounters.
Brittany, thank you very much for being in my life, all these years later. I’m immensely grateful that we’ve reconnected and that we get to see each other so much more now. Thank you for being a true rock of a friend for my sister and for always being such good company. You have such a good attitude (especially with what Tom puts you through) and I appreciate your willingness to laugh and have a good time. Thank you for supporting me as I grew into myself as a gay man for of course being at the infamous 12-girl lunch back in middle school… Thank you for being so kind and positive, and for putting your family and friends first, above all. Thank you for being strong and courageous in the face of any obstacle and for your patience, especially in today’s world. I’m so lucky to have you as a friend in my life, and I always will be. Thank you, Brittany, for being you.
