.115 Dylan Mulvaney
I challenge you to try and find someone more exuberant and outwardly joyful as Dylan. We have known each other for quite a long time, in fact if my memory is correct, I think the first time I saw him was when we both were (literal) children and he was playing snoopy in a regional San Diego theater production. His talent was palpable then and still shines through today, whether it’s through his performing in the 2nd National Tour of Book of Mormon, or through his hilariously vibrant and charming TikToks that are, of course, blowing up, and should be! Above these accolades, however, are his kindness and compassion as a dear friend and role model with regard to living openly and proudly, everyday.
Dylan and I got closer toward the end of my high school days, which is when I really was able to witness his jubilant self first-hand. He’s a mixture of intelligence, powerful personality and an incredibly contagious presence that allows for him to relate and empathize with everyone around him. His talent as a singer and actor is off the charts, and I’ve been fortunate to see him perform numerous times, each leaving me with a huge smile. I also can’t overestimate the role he plays with showing people what it means to be who you are. He’s open and honest and that invites people to be real with themselves and to be courageous in their own right. Dylan is so gracious and sweet, always taking the time to chat about anything from serious topics to downright silly things. He’s a true hoot of a person to spend time with and, in times of social distancing, to derive joy from, even if through the internet.
Dylan, thank you very much for being such a thoughtful and delightful human being who always treats others with dignity. Thank you for your energy and your beauty. Thank you for always being so positive and for being honest about when you’re not feeling great. That, too, is important. Thank you for being such a source of laughter and joy for me and so many others. Thank you for trusting me all those years ago and for being so trustworthy yourself. I’m so grateful to be friends with you and to watch as you launch forward in your life each and every day. Thank you, Dylan, for being you.
