.116 Chris Dilan
I’ve been fortunate to know Chris for two years now, and he is many different things. He’s an artist; crafting incredible music, powerful artwork and apparel (Question Life NYC!). He’s intelligent and kind and very, very patient. He’s grounded and humble, straightforward and easygoing. He also happens to be one of the doormen to the building I live in, therefore meaning that I see him almost every single day, sometimes at my best, and sometimes at my worst. It doesn’t really matter what mood or state I am in; Chris is always there to greet me with his compassionate and welcoming presence.
I can’t emphasize enough how patient Chris is. Mathematically, I only see a sliver of what he does on a daily basis, but what I do see is a man doing his his job with such diligence and grace despite any sort of rudeness or disrespect that seemingly happens from others all too often. On top of him being so helpful and kind, it always seems like he’s crafting up his next big idea in his head, whether it’s a song or a design or something else. He’s so clearly creative and driven, and it’s inspiring to see and hear about whenever we talk. To me, Chris is proof that you can wear many hats and do multiple things in life, all while being kind in the process.
Chris, thank you for always listening to my silly stories and rants whenever I walk by. Thank you for being supportive of me and A, and Amigo! Thank you for always making me laugh and for being open and honest with me when you’re having a tough day — it reminds me to be open and honest with myself and to take extra time to treat others with dignity and respect. I appreciate you. I’m grateful to know you and I’m certain everyone in your life feels the exact same way. Thank you, Chris, for being you.
