.133 Kamomi Solidum
There are certain people who give me an immediate sense of peaceful energy when I meet them. Kamomi is a perfect example of this mixed with a wave of kindness and a grounded presence. We crossed paths when I was working at The Met as she is one of the many talented designers there. I remember when I found out she was the designer for my next event/project, multiple people told me how lucky I was — “she’s one of the best” they said. I ended up saying the exact same thing.
My interactions with Kamomi were not countless or extensive; in fact, they commonly involved a brief conversation in an elevator, passing each other in the underground hallways, or the emailing back and forth with one another. What stands out to me though is her unwavering compassion and empathetic words in each of the moments that we did interact, and how she always left me with a smile and just feeling better. She has a unique way of making people happier just by existing, and that is both something I deeply and appreciate and miss. Put simply, Kamomi is a wonderful human being, someone who I am grateful to have met and to have worked with, and someone who brings me comfort just knowing they’re around. I left the museum around a year ago, but I’m confident that if things were back to normal, Kamomi would be making someone else smile each time they passed in the hallway.
Kamomi, thank you so much for being such a lovely colleague and person to share space with. Thank you for always making me feel happier and for doing the amazing and important work that you do. Thank you for taking the time to chat the other day and for exhibiting a level of unassuming kindness that folks can aspire to emulate. Thank you, Kamomi, for being you.
