.033 McKinlee Hand
McKinlee was one of my residents during my sophomore year (her freshman year) as an RA. We had an immediate connection and understanding of each other, and I realized very quickly that she was going to be a dear friend of mine. She’s bold, courageous, and leads her life in the direction that is true to her morals and values. She’s done more in her life than most folks do before they die, and it’s because of her extreme dedication to working hard to achieve the goals that she wants to achieve.
In college, McKinlee was clearly in a transformative period (as we all are), and she took each day’s obstacles in stride and with a positive outlook. She’s so smart and has such a loving and open personality that welcomes everyone instantly. Being around her, it’s impossible not to laugh and even more difficult not to feel inspired. McKinlee calms you down with her relaxed charm and willingness to be vulnerable. Her smile spreads quickly and makes for a wonderful time each moment you are with her, or even just on the phone with her. Perhaps most of all, McKinlee is brave. Brave in her actions everyday, brave in her stoic presence when faced with the scariest of situations, and brave to live a life that is how she wants it, and no one else.
McKinlee, thank you for trusting me and for opening your heart to me when we met, allowing for us to become friends instantly and til this day. Thank you for your stories, your smiles, and for your listening ear. Thank you for being different. Thank you for being quirky and a goofball, and for inspiring me to always be who I am. I’m so grateful that you are in my life and I’m so grateful that we connect in ways that are almost strangely hard to put words to. Thank you for being your badass self. Thank you for being you.
