.174 Karyn Cassella
In college, I had a few standout professors who really left an imprint on my mind and heart. One of those important educators is unquestionably Karyn, the professor of one of my very last Human Services classes, specifically one that was worth 6 credits and admittedly was a ton of work each week. This was never really bothersome, in fact, I was always excited to get to class and experience the humor, intelligence and prowess of Professor Cassella.
Karyn had an incredible way of both challenging us to do better the next week while also recognizing and encouraging the effort that was being given in the moment. She was at times tough but always caring and compassionate. She allowed for wonderful discussion between everyone in the class, eventually turning us into a family of sorts. Karyn was always honest about the work, what to expect in the future, and how best to prepare for life after graduation, especially in the small but mighty field/major we were in. She so skillfully balanced inside and outside the classroom learning, and I deeply appreciate that and everything about her teaching style to this day.
Karyn, thank you for being an outstanding professor and human being. Thank you for always pushing me with encouragement so that I could grow and develop each week. Thank you for your fabulous sense of humor and for always weaving laughter into our weekly discussions. Thank you for doing the work that you do, both then and now, and thank you for your patience and diligence through it all. Thank you for being so kind and supportive. Thank you for being you.
