.150 Jimmy Tan
Jimmy and I live on opposite sides of the planet, yet I always feel so connected to him whenever we speak. We first met through email and after finally connecting in person at a TED conference, my suspicion that we would be close turned out to be true. It’s hard to explain, but Jimmy gives off this incredibly warm and knowing energy, almost as if we have been friends for decades. I know if we lived closer to each other that we’d see each other a lot.
Jimmy is a true powerhouse organizer within the TEDx family, and it’s evident through the remarkable events he produces year over year, as well as through the amazing team he surrounds himself with. Jimmy makes you feel welcome and is a wonderful listener, always paying attention and focusing on the smallest details and big picture items. He’s a total sweetheart, too (and handsome!), always making me smile and laugh, and he’s truly kind and compassionate to everyone he interacts with. When I last saw him in NYC, I was instantly reminded of why I enjoy spending time around him; he makes you feel good. He’s smart, talented, genuine, and positive.
Jimmy, thank you for being such a spark of joy in my life. Thank you for being a part of that wonderful and hilarious memory of the dinner in Banff. Thank you for your big ideas, your brain, your heart and your kindness. Thank you for being willing to chat through a 13-hour time difference! I’m so grateful to have you in my life and can’t wait for the next time I see you in person. Thank you, Jimmy, for being you.
